Throughout term 1 and 2 the foundation studentss have been working with paper to learn about texture and form.
The students have done several different projects using paper in different ways for them to understand artwork in 3 dimensions. The first of which was an abstract piece that required them to tear, cut and fold paper into an abstract image.
The students grasped the concept very well and really enjoyed the project with some wonderful dynamic results, as you can see below. They learned about texture, (although it did take a moment to differentiate from texta, which they all assured me they knew exactly what they were) through the tearing, cutting and folding which was a very tactile way for them to learn.
In addition, students have made self-portraits using paper that they have decorated and rolled to create a body. Then they used their learned folding techniques to make arms and legs and drawing head with paper hair. They loved this project as it is a fun way to learn about form.
