Nurturing sensitivity in boys.

Boys are naturally caring and sensitive people, as we all are. The fact is, we are born this way. No-one is born aggressive or rough and we all enjoy the warmth and gentleness of being loved and loving others.

Unfortunately, societal ideals and beliefs impose on both girls and boys to be a certain way according to certain (sometimes unconscious) standards that we have set. For boys, the message is generally about toughening up, hardening their bodies, being competitive, not expressing how they feel and not showing affection. All of these beliefs go against the natural expression of a young boy. Yes, he may be active, he may love using his body and being more physical…but he also feels a lot and hurts just as much as a girl does. When boys are encouraged to express how they feel, we are nurturing their sensitivity. It is letting them know that they don’t have to succumb to the pressures from the outside and can simply be themselves.

In terms of their well-being, this is a huge step forward in supporting them to become independent, confident, responsible and connected human beings.
