Art at a glance

Term 3 is off to a flyer with all grades producing high quality art work. Below are some of the outstanding compositions that have been created by the students of Toorak Primary School during the past two weeks.

The Foundation students have been learning about using shading and lines to create movement in their artwork. These ‘Sailing Boat’ artworks were created by Milana from Prep C and Maddie from Prep A:

Grades 1 and 2 have been learning about using line and colour in their drawings to create emotion. They have spent time designing their own ‘mini beast’ and using bright colours to draw happy faces. Here is the work of James from 1A and Chrissy from 2A:

Grades 3 and 4 have been learning about sculptures and the importance of designing, planning material lists and building strong foundations when constructing. Through the use of pop sticks, cardboard, corks, bottle caps and PVA glue they created some amazing pieces for the ‘Timber Towers’ activity. Here is the work of Annabelle and Emma from 3A:

Grade 5 and 6 have been exploring the use of perspective in various art forms. Firstly they constructed a ‘vase or faces’ piece by using contrasting paper to create positive and negative spaces. Their next task is to draw a one point perspective view of a street, in which the object will appear to vanish into the horizon.

Here are two fantastic positive and negative images created by Hiruni and Fosco of 5/6B:

The above artwork and more will be displayed in the office as of next week should you wish to come and see our talented students’ work first hand.

Keep up the good work everyone!
