Beyond the Classroom

Camps Program

Toorak Primary School prides itself on providing a quality camp-like experience for our students from Foundation through to Grade 6. Our camps are designed to teach independence, resilience, and teamwork, and most importantly, they are a lot of fun!

Foundation: The camp journey begins with our Foundation students participating in a "Breakfast at School" event. Students come to school in their pyjamas, enjoy a nutritious breakfast, and then change into their school uniforms, setting the stage for future camp experiences.

Year 1: Our Year 1 students enjoy a "Stay Late at School" afternoon, where they engage in fun activities and get a taste of independence while still returning home in the evening.

Year 2: The excitement builds with a school sleepover for our Year 2 students. This overnight experience helps them develop confidence and camaraderie with their peers.

Year 3 to 5: Students in Years 3 to 5 attend 2 to 3-day camps at a variety of amazing venues. These camps focus on fun-filled and challenging activities that promote teamwork, resilience, and personal growth.

Year 6: The camping program culminates with a 3-day ski camp at Mt Buller for our Year 6 students. This thrilling adventure helps students build lasting friendships, create memorable experiences, and step outside their comfort zones.

Our camp program is an integral part of the Toorak Primary School experience, providing students with invaluable life skills and unforgettable memories.

House Spirit

At Toorak Primary School, our vibrant house system fosters a sense of community, pride, and healthy competition. We have four houses: Monash, Nelson, Hinkler, and Kingsford. Students are placed into one of these houses upon enrolment and remain in their house throughout their time at the school.

Each house is led by our dedicated Grade 6 House Captains, who inspire and motivate their peers. House spirit is celebrated through various events and activities, including our grade 3 to 6 swimming and athletics carnivals and our whole school cross country carnival.

To promote unity and enthusiasm, students are encouraged to wear their house-colored polo tops to school every Friday. We love seeing our students get dressed up and actively participate in showing their house pride! This not only enhances school spirit but also helps develop leadership, teamwork, and a strong sense of belonging among our students.

Incursions/Excursions

Incursions and excursions are integral to our curriculum, offering diverse and enriching opportunities for all students outside the traditional classroom setting. Our students enjoy a variety of exciting excursions including visits to IMAX and the Melbourne Museum, The Melbourne Zoo, Scienceworks and The CERES Community Park just to name a few.

We also bring enriching experiences directly to our students through a variety of incursions including Wellbeing, First Nations, Reptile and Science incursions. These carefully curated activities complement our curriculum, providing students with hands-on learning experiences.

Water Safety

Our students participate in an intensive learn to swim/water safety program designed to develop swimming skills, water safety awareness, and promote safe practices in and around water.  It is an important part of our curriculum, ensuring that all students gain confidence and competence in the water.

Extra-Curricular

Toorak Primary School offers a variety of extracurricular activities providing students with opportunities to explore their interests and develop new skills:

German Program

We offer a German immersion program, 100 minutes per week for children aged 5-11 years with a native speaking German background who are already proficient in the German language. Two days per week, students leave their Australian classes early to attend the Spatzenschule. For further information, please visit the Spatzenschule website.
