Last week the Grade 3 students got their hands dirty to help prepare the soil for the eagerly awaited Kitchen Garden, which will be planted next term. With the help of Sebastian Beck from CERES Educational park, the students learnt about the types of insects we could find in the soil. We discovered an infestation of Scarab Beetle grubs who love to eat the roots of the plants. The students worked tirelessly to sift through the soil and find the grubs which would later become food for the chickens. Grade 3 then researched the different insects we had found and reflected on their experience. Here are some pictures below.
