Word Mania Finals!

Over the past three weeks, students in years 1-6 have been competing in Word Mania; a spelling competition run through Literacy Planet. Last year was our first year competing and we saw tremendous success with all years qualifying for the finals and the Year 2s coming 6th nationally. We were eager to replicate those amazing results.

During spelling lessons, early finishers literacy tasks and at recess and lunchtimes students have been completing games, trying to achieve new high scores and build on spelling strategies such as using prefixes and suffixes to build on base words.
Finals week arrived and the Year 1s, 2s, 3s, 5s and 6s all qualified to compete against other schools across Australia and New Zealand. Congratulations on the following results:
Year 1s came 4th
Year 2s came 12th
Year 3s came 2nd and
Year 6s came 22nd.
We’re confident the Year 5s would have also featured on this list had it not coincided with Ski Camp.
Well done to the Year 1s on a strong finish, moving up to 4th place in the final hours of the competition. It was a fantastic result by the Year 3s, who were 1st right up until the last 45minutes of the competition. The results were extremely tight, losing by just 720 points when scores were over 320,000!
I would like to highlight outstanding effort by the following students: Aarush and Jaida in Year 1, Angelina, Claudia, Dimitri, Freddie and Rafferty from Year 2, Devante, Haydon, Keeratpal, Luke, Max, Orlando, Sacha, Sophia and Tanish from Year 3, Felix, Gia and Roveenaa from Year 4, Chloe, Hannah and Jayziah from Year 5, and Aamini, Alicia, Harry, Jeya and Shreya from Year 6.
Congratulations and well done to all.
